We are now accepting registrations for our popular Merrily We Meet – Parent / Child Playgroup classes for the 2013 / 2014 school year.  These popular classes are for children under 3 and their parent or caregiver.  Classes will be offered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am – 12pm.  A Fall and Spring session of 13 weeks each will be available.  Class tuition is $300 per student, with discounts available for siblings attending on the same day.

Dancing Around the Maypole and the Making of Flower Crowns

at Sweet Peas Cafe in Downtown Dunedin

Wednesday, May 15th 10am – 12pm

Suncoast Waldorf School and Sweet Peas Café invite you and your young children to a celebration of spring.  Bring a small bouquet of flowers and wear white or pastel clothes for dancing ‘round the Maypole.

Enjoy conversation with moms or dads while children play in the beautifully shaded side yard of Sweet Peas Café.  Waldorf teachers will lead everyone in a spring circle and Maypole dancing followed by light refreshments.  The morning will end with a puppet play for the children.

This annual festival of the welcoming of spring is celebrated at Waldorf schools throughout the world.

To fully appreciate what makes Suncoast Waldorf School unique, we encourage parents to visit our oak-shaded campus and experience Waldorf education in action.  Visitor mornings are currently scheduled for every Thursday from 9am – 12pm.  Although a phone call (727-786-8311) is appreciated, visitors are welcome to drop in.

Visitor mornings include a tour of the school from the Parent-Child playgroup and our Kindergartens through all of our grades.  It is a wonderful way to see classes and teachers in action as they go about their normal routines.  Tours are led by our Enrollment Director who can answer specific questions about the school, curriculum or enrollment process.

We currently have an open enrollment policy at Suncoast Waldorf School.  If there are openings in a class, we have the ability to accept students into it at anytime during the school year.  Some of our classes are at capacity; for those classes, applicants are placed on a wait list.

Please join us for an Open House on Saturday, April 13th to discover the wonder of the Waldorf curriculum first-hand and experience what happens when teachers are free to bring education as an art.  Space is limited, so please RSVP to 727-786-8311.  Please plan to arrive between 9:00am and 9:30am to allow time for registration.  Small children are welcome to join their parents in the Kindergarten Experience, however, the Grades Experience is reserved for adults.  Thank you.

This year’s annual Silent Auction & Party is only a few days away!  Come join us on Saturday, March 2nd from 6pm – 10pm at the UUC Social Hall in Clearwater.  Tickets are $50 /each or $75 / couple and admission includes great food, open bar, entertainment and a host of wonderful auction items on which to bid.

This year’s event – Carnaval del Mundo – has a truly international flavor with international foods and entertainment.  Everyone is encouraged to come in the International costume of their heritage or any heritage they like – prizes will be awarded for the best costume!

Almost 50 participants came out to take part in our Windows Into Waldorf Open House this past Saturday, February 9th.  It was wonderful to see so many parents taking a sincere interest in Waldorf education.

Families with small children engaged in a mini-kindergarten morning.  Children enjoyed exploring the kindergarten room, playing with the many open-ended toys and learning to bake bread with Ms. Rita.  Mrs. Friedman led the families in a movement circle, while our Nursery teacher Ms. D’Anne told the children a story.  Families then got to sample the bread they had made with butter and honey and enjoy our outside play space.

Parents in the Grades Experience got to step into the shoes of a Waldorf student.  Their morning began with the ring of our school bell and a brief introduction.  These parents were then led through a lower grades experience by Ms. Alday and Mrs. Potts.  Parents even created a main lesson page just as our students would do.  They graduated on to an upper grades experience of science, math and history with Ms. Guido, Ms. Schmitt and Herr Kian.

On Friday, February 15 at 7:00 PM, we will be treated to an exciting talk by Douglas Gerwin, PhD.

Douglas is the Director of the Center for Anthroposophy and Co-Director of the Research Institute for Waldorf Education, and has taught history, literature, German, music, and life science at the Waldorf high school level since 1983. He presently divides his time between adult education and teaching in various North American Waldorf schools. Douglas is the founder of the Waldorf High School Teacher Education Program at the Center for Anthroposophy and editor of several books related to Waldorf education

Douglas will speak on “Teaching Technology in Waldorf Schools,” giving all a full understanding of the approach that Waldorf schools take toward the use of technology. Below is an article authored by Douglas on the subject.  It will be a an enlightening evening, don’t miss it!
